What should I expect at my first appointment?

At your first appointment, our primary job is to listen to you. We'll ask you to share your perspective on what your current concerns are. We'll ask about your life experiences, family background and current circumstances. Together, we'll discuss and create a tentative plan for your therapy sessions. For your convenience, we have included the New Client form. You may find it useful to fill out your information and bring it to the first appointment.

How do I choose a therapist?

Please check the Biographies on our website to review each clinician’s specialties. This will help you select the right therapist for your needs. Your insurance company may also have a referral system to direct you to a specific therapist. Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. If you are uncomfortable with the therapist you begin working with, you may wish to see a different therapist.

What are your rates? Do you have a sliding scale?

We accept most major insurance plans including HMO’s. Our rates vary depending on the length of your appointment, the training of your provider and the service provided. We offer a discount to those who pay at the time of service and are also happy to discuss a sliding scale with those who have financial limitations. Our Standard Rates are:

Individual Therapy $160 - $180 for Initial Evaluation
  $120 - $135 for 50 Minute Session
Family Therapy $135 - $145 per Session
AODA Assessment $200 per Assessment
AODA Individual Counseling $120 per Session
AODA Family Therapy $135 per Session
Psychological Testing $175 per Hour

We also provide court ordered services for anger management, domestic violence, custody review and co-parenting. Please Contact Us for our rates for these services.

What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality between you and your therapist begins the moment you schedule your first appointment. The only exceptions are those required by the State of Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Notice form clarifies the limited and rare circumstances that legally require our staff to disclose information without your explicit consent. These circumstances include:

  • Legally mandated reporting of any form of child abuse or neglect
  • In the event that a person presents a serious risk of harm to themselves or others
  • Elder abuse situations
  • Certain court proceedings
  • If requested by the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing

With the above exceptions, you will need to sign a specific release of information before any information can be released to a third party.

Please Note: All insurance companies require clinical information to be released to them before they process claims. You may want to discuss with your therapist whether you want to have this information released to your insurance company. If you want to protect your privacy further, you may choose to pay out-of pocket for your session and not involve your insurance company.

Is my child too young for therapy?

Young children can be treated for anxiety, behavior and emotion regulation challenges, grief, peer conflict, trauma or attachment issues. For most issues, therapy works best when children have facility with language or can express themselves through play. Parents are often in the best position to help their child. For that reason, we strongly encourage parent involvement, coaching and counseling are important.
